filler filler filler WELCOME to Comments from Gooseberry.... HONK HONK!!!
(From Gooseberry's comments at Yahoo's SC Club, March 28, 1999)
(More from Gooseberry at Gooseberry's Nuke Tips or Gooseberry's S.C. School)

Before reading, check out the section on cloakers at Gooseberry's SC School.

I have personally only pulled off a nuke as described therein 2 or 3 times. I've gotten mail from people, though, who claim that they've used it successfully over 10 times! The universe is becoming a dangerous place for old tried-and-true tactics like the pop trick.

Speaking of cloakers, here's an interesting coup that I've tried a few times, but only got away with once.

I'm allied with some clown who's twice my size in a big game. I've got a 20 econ, he's got a 37 econ. It's time to ally out, but in my stubborn way I decide to try to do the impossible: nuke my huge enemy. I can see his HW, he can't see mine.

Here's how I do it.

First I build a big fat fleet of BR7 cloakers at my homeworld, and cloak them. I got a stargate in my homeworld with them.

Next I build a huge fleet of BR1 attack ships and a bunch of BR7 minesweepers. I build them where he can see them, and tell him that I'm off to nuke the last player who is falling into ruins.

Then I switch from ally-->trade.

Of course he sees "trade" and goes ballistic. My fleet of BR1 attacks and BR7 sweepers disperses throughout his stuff, making it clear that they will have lots of different targets to attack.

Now the cloakers gate to the front. Trade-->truce

The object is to move the cloakers along with a sweeper or two into his HW. By distracting him with my BR1's I can lure him into sending the bulk of his forces to where my ships APPEAR to be. The two lonely sweepers in his homeworld do not appear to be much of a threat. Perhaps he covers it with 2 satellites and a few attack ships... BABOOM!
